Food is Fuel for your Training

Food is Fuel for Your Strength Training

10 years ago, I was convinced that the most important thing in life was to be skinny. I compared myself to every single girl I saw. If she was skinnier than me, she was automatically better than me. I binged for hours, then restricted for 3 days afterward. I took laxatives in an effort to be thinner. I thought of myself as weak every time I ate junk food or dessert. I wouldn’t leave the house if I looked in the mirror and didn’t like what I saw. I stopped eating for days in preparation for the weekend, when I knew I would be in public with eyes on me. I stopped going to class & slept all day instead.

This was me 10 years ago, and I know I’m not alone. I know many of you either currently struggle with this, or have struggled with this in the past. Self love is SO HARD, you guys. And unfortunately, it’s pretty rare. Every day I witness people putting themselves down or talking proudly about how many meals they’ve skipped. And while I’m a personal trainer and my job is to help people become more physically fit, I see it more as I’m here to help you become the best version of yourself. I am not simply here to make you skinnier: I’m here to make you stronger, more confident, healthier. If you come to me & tell me your goal is to simply be thinner, I’m gonna ask you about your other goals and I’m going to ask you WHY you feel the need to be thinner, and what you think losing x amount of weight is going to do for you. Lastly, this is a photo of me eating (lolz) because food is NOT the enemy. FOOD IS FUEL. It allows you to kick butt in your strength and endurance training workouts. It powers every single function within your body. Honestly, looking at food in this way – as fuel, not as calories that were running my life – was a game-changer for me & my eating disorder. So please, please don’t starve yourself. Don’t deprive yourself. Love yourself. ✨ #PSA #selflove #fightingwithfood
